CWO3 "Bos'n" Wayne E. Duerler

A native of Beaumont, Texas, CWO3 “Bos’n” Wayne Duerler in 1992 attended the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Academy.

During his 19 years of Law Enforcement (LE) service, CWO3 has attended dozens of training and instructor level schools for Law Enforcement and Military certifications.

Experience:

CWO3 enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves in November 1997 and reported for duty with the Amphibious Warfare Command, Assault Craft Unit One (ACU-1) January 1998 at Navy Reserve Center, Orange Texas. From January 1998 until January 2007 CWO3 Duerler served with ACU-1, a hardware equipment unit with two LCM-8 “Mike” boats and several small craft including Zodiac, SEA-ARK, and Boston Whaler utility & security small boats.

​ At NRC Orange, he earned his Petty Officer in Charge (POIC) Boat Pin and achieved the rank of BM1; qualified for two NEC’s; and held several collateral duties to include Deck LPO, Training LPO, Small Arms Instructor, SRF-Team Member, QRF-Team Member, VBSS Team Leader, Crew Serve Weapons Specialist and Assault Boat Engineer and Coxswain.

In January of 2007 CWO3 Duerler transferred to Navy Coastal Warfare Commands MIUW-109 as the weapons department LPO but due to leadership deployments, he served as acting LCPO and Weapons Department Head until October 2007.   He and 40 MIUW 109ers were recalled to active duty to serve and forward deploy with NCW Squadron 30/IBU-17.  CWO3 excelled as a Tactical Craft Coxswain, Patrol Leader (PL), Tactical Supervisor (TS), Anti-Terrorism Officer (ATO), VBSS LPO, Watch Officer, (WO) Chief of the Guard (COG), Counter-Terrorism Officer (CTO) and Liaison Naval Officer (LNO).

He was selected to Chief and pinned in September 2008. In December 2008 he returned from forward deployment to the newly formed SEC-DET 541 as the N-7 (training) LCPO, Command ATO and QRF Team Leader until August of 2010. He was promoted to DET LCPO until October 2011 when he was recalled back to active duty and forward deployed as a Tactical Boat section Chief (LCPO), Command ATO, CTO, LNO, QRF Team Leader with CORIVRON-11 until January 2013.

In February of 2013 he returned to newly formed CORIVRON-1 Alpha Company, Second Platoon as the Platoon SEL until his selection to CWO2 in March of 2014 where he served as Platoon AOIC and OIC.  He transferred in October 2016 and now serves with Amphibious Construction Battalion Two (ACB-2) in Little Creek VA as a Shipboard Debarkation Safety & Security Officer and Battalion Tactical Training Officer.
